Heim walks it off and leads the Rangers past the Rays for a sweep.

Jonah Heim was the man of the day for the Rangers as he hit a walk-off single off Rays’ reliever Edwin Uceta with two outs in the ninth inning. Heim ended the day two for four with a stolen base and the game winning rbi and boosted his batting average to .333 on the season.

Josh Smith also had himself quite the day as he collect threes hits and he ended up scoring the winning run as he doubled earlier in the ninth inning. This effort boosted his batting average up to .333. Smith and Heim did most of the work for the Rangers’ offense as they combined for five of Rangers’ seven hits.

Jacob Webb got the win as he was able to strand the Rays’ go ahead run at second base in the ninth. The Rangers went into the game with a depleted bullpen as Manager Bruce Bochy said that Luke Jackson or Chris Martin wouldn’t be available in this game due to recent workload.

This game could have gone sideways for the Rangers if starter Kumar Rocker performed like he did in his last start where he only got through three innings while allowing six runs. Rocker stepped up big for them as he pitched a career high five innings while allowing just one run on six hits with no walks and a strikeout.

While Rocker didn’t show his intense strikeout numbers that we’ve seen in the past, this is still a step in the right direction for him. He looked more comfortable today and in control of his pitches. He did a good job of limiting base runners and when they would get base, he would do a good job at minimizing the damage.

The Rangers are looking to get more of this out of Rocker and would be happy if he can take the ball every five days and give them this.

The bullpen was good for the most part as Hoby Milner fired two scoreless innings in relief. However, rookie Marc Church struggled. He allowed two runs in the inning he worked, he got into trouble with runners on second and third with no outs. An rbi groundout and a sac fly followed and the game was tied at three.

The Rangers’ offense was solid, they didn’t break out like they have in past years and put up ten runs, but they do enough to win the game. They got the first run of the game on a fielder’s choice by Marcus Semien that scored Josh Smith. Jonah Heim almost beat the second baseman to the bag and the Rangers challenged it. They were unsuccessful.

The game was knotted up at one in the sixth inning when Corey Seager stepped up to the plate and he did what Corey Seager does. He launched a solo home run to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead. The Rangers added onto the lead in the seventh inning with a Leody Taveras single that scored Heim from second after he stole the bag.

This win moves the Rangers to 8-2 on the season. They lead their division and have the best record in the American League, this is despite the fact that they have the league’s worst batting average at .192. They keep finding ways to win games, and it would scary to see this offense break out and hit like they can.

Nathan Eovaldi will get the ball Monday against the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley at 6:40 p.m. as the Rangers try to extend their winning streak to six games. Justin Steele will opposed Eovaldi for the Cubs.
